Obituary of M. Madeline McLeod

The death of Madeline McLeod of Saint John, NB, wife of the late James Joseph McLeod, occurred on Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in P.E.I in 1920, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Emma Elizabeth (Campbell) Chlow. Madeline was a member of the St. Joseph School of Nursing, Saint John, class of 1941. Following graduation she began her long career as a nurse in BC, before returning to settle in Saint John, working at Saint John General Hospital 5th floor night duty; then at St. Joseph’s Hospital night supervisor until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of St. Pius X C.W.L. and Quilters Group, Somerset Community Centre senior cards, the CNR pensions bowling team, an active volunteer for the Saint John Regional Hospital spending countless hours knitting hats for new borns and quilting. Madeline was an avid quilter, making hundreds of quilts in her lifetime; those who were lucky enough to receive one know the love and work that went into each cherished quilt. Survived by her daughters, Elizabeth, Ann and Karyl McLeod all of Saint John; one sister, Jean (Charles) Marshall of ON; brothers-in-law, Gerald, Edward and Joseph McLeod; special grandchildren, Jeff (Jenn) Morton and their children, Alicia, Bailey and Matthew, Kaitlyn Farren and Dairren Farren; several nieces, nephews and special family friends. Predeceased by her brothers, Harold, Donald, Marshall, Pope Charles, Raymond and Ralph. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 11:00 am. Interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetic Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation, St. Pius X Church Building Fund or any charity of the donor’s choice. www.brenansfh.com
