Obituary of Francis 'Frank' George O'Keefe
Francis George (Frank) O’Keefe of Saint John, husband of Ann M. (Lanigan) O’Keefe, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the Loch Lomond Villa. Born at Saint John on March 26, 1930, he was a son of the late Patrick and Mary (McGillicuddy) O’Keefe. Frank spent his early years on Pill Hill in the North End, and attended Holy Trinity School, St. Peter’s Boys’ School, and St. Vincent’s High School. His working career was spent with Irving Pulp and Paper, where he worked for 31 years. Frank and Ann enjoyed camping and traveling, especially in the New England States. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox (or any team that beat the Yankees) and enjoyed watching the ball games in the city as well. He was a patient man, who found great satisfaction in putting others first, and enjoyed his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. In addition to his wife of 51 years, Frank is survived by two daughters, Patti Darling (Donald) of Saint John, and Leanne Thorne (Greg) of Saint John; grandchildren Meghan, Mariah, and Liam Darling, and Darrian, David, and Daniel Thorne; a brother-in-law, Bob Roberts of Saint John; sisters-in-law Loretta O’Keefe of Quebec, Therese O’Keefe of Saint John, and Margaret O’Keefe of Burlington, Ontario; and several nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of his immediate family, “Chuckie” was predeceased by brothers Joseph, John, and Charles; and by sisters Mary Chenier, Eileen Roberts, and Helen Moore. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 AM from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
