Obituary of Patricia M. O. Thompson

Thompson, Patricia Marion Olive - The death of Patricia Marion (Pat) Thompson of Saint John, NB occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on April 30, 2010. Pat was born in Hamilton, Ontario, on March 17, 1935, only daughter of the late Mary (Ritchie, Van Sickle) Mustard and Edward Van Sickle, and grew up in Dundas, Ontario. She was employed as Activity Director at the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home in Saint John, from 1983 until her retirement in 2000. Pat was a member of the NB Activity Directors Association, National Certification Council for Activity Professionals and New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes and Newfoundland and Labrador Health Care Association, and treasured her years working with the seniors. A member of St. Marks United Church, Pat had been very active at Westfield United for the 40 years she resided in Westfield, before moving to Saint John in 2003. Pat worked with Pastoral Care for St. Mark’s, volunteering at the Church Home and Saint John Library, West Branch and Hospice Calgary. She was the devoted mother of one daughter, Wendy Hansen (Stephen) of Calgary, Alberta; two sons Robert (Iris) of Westfield and Douglas (Dana) of Saint John. She also leaves to mourn her three beloved grandchildren; Rebecca Hansen, Nicholas and Matthew Thompson. Surviving also are one brother, Donald (Gwen) Van Sickle, Houston, Texas; special sister in-law Sonja Van Sickle, Burlington, Ontario; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Robert, infant brother Graham and an infant son. Friends may call at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Sunday from 7-9 PM and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held from St. Mark’s Church, 50 Dexter Drive on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 1:30 PM. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Greater Saint John or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
