Obituary of Bernice Mary Rita Kennedy
Bernice Mary Rita Kennedy of Saint John, wife of the late Raymond Joseph Leo Kennedy, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 04, 2010. Born at Douglastown, QC on November 7, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Patrick Horatio and Mary Beatrice (Bourget) White. Bernice lived most of her life in Douglastown, QC, moving to Saint John in the early 1990’s. She was active with the Women’s Institute in Quebec, and in Saint John volunteered with Festival by the Sea and at the cruise ship terminal, as well as canvassing for the Red Cross, Cancer Society, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Parish, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, and traveling; but her greatest joy was her family whom she loved dearly. Bernice is survived by her children, Idella Cody of Orleans, ON, Cheryl Chiasson (Eugene) of Pincourt, QC, Lisa McGeachy of Saint John, and Desmond Kennedy (Deena Perrault) of Pierrefonds, QC; grandchildren Shelanie Cody, Tabitha Rae (Brian), Bettina Cody (Jeff Schroeder), Jollan Cody (Jennifer), Jason Cody, Zane Cody, Natalie Chiasson (Andy), Kimberley Chiasson (Adam), Kennedy McGeachy, André Kennedy, and Ronin Kennedy; great grandchildren Alyssa Cody, Carly Rae, and Annabelle Cody; sisters Laura Marion of Montreal, QC, and Janet Farrell (Tom) of Guelph, ON; a brother, Simon White (Helen) of Montreal, QC; a sister-in-law, Claire White of Montreal, QC; and by several nieces and nephews. Bernice was predeceased by brothers Gabriel, Wilfred, and Kenny White. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 1:00 PM from St. John the Baptist Church, Broad Street, Saint John. Interment will take place in Douglastown, QC at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family, in lieu of flowers.
