Obituary of M. Jean Jackson

The family of Matilda Jean Jackson are saddened by her death, which occurred on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at York Manor, Fredericton, NB. Until her 96th birthday, Jean had good health and was able to enjoy her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her final year was spent in St. Joseph’s in Saint John and in York Manor in Fredericton. Jean who was born in Ballantyre, Glasgow, Scotland on May 5, 1913, she was the oldest daughter of Mary (Cooper) and William Ross Martin. Jean was a proud War Bride, landing in Halifax at Pier 21 in December of 1944 and then traveling by train to Saint John where she resided for many years. She worked in the nurse’s residence of the Saint John General Hospital for over 25 years until her retirement in 1977. Jean then moved to Fredericton a few months ago to be closer to her daughter. Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survived by her son, Jack Jackson (Linda) of Saint John and her daughter, Annette Jackson of Fredericton; grandchildren, Stacey Jackson of Saint John, Cory Jackson of Musquash, Steven Jackson and Shelly Machum of Lower Sackville, NS; great-grandchildren, Emma, Joanna and Colin Jackson of Musquash and Andrew, Kayla Machum of Lower Sackville.. Jean was predeceased by her husband, John Jackson; her son, Ian Andrew Jackson; brothers, Jock and Andrew and sisters, Margaret, Mary, Agnes (Nessie) and Ann. The family would like to extend a profound gratitude to the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital and the staff of York Manor. Jean adored the nurses, attendants, food services staff, housekeeping personnel and all the other professional and volunteer workers who made her last year such a special time. Thanks to their loving care and patience, Jean loved her “home away from home”. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, 506-634-7424 with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 PM. A Private celebration of Jean’s life will take place from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment to take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
