Obituary of James Chipman Grimmer McKay

James Chipman Grimmer McKay passed away December 9, 2010 after a short illness. Born in Saint John on July 27, 1948, Jim attended Saint John area schools, graduating as Head Prefect from Rothesay Collegiate School in 1967. Jim was the son of Chipman Ovens McKay of Saint John and Jacqueline Hazen Grimmer of Saint John and Chamcook, NB. Jim is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gwendolyn S. McKay of Fredericton, son Chipman B. McKay of Clearwater, BC, daughter Ryan E. McKay of Victoria, BC, a brother Thomas A. McKay of Westfield, nephews John and Samuel McKay and niece Emily McKay of Westfield NB, cousins Rosmund Richardson of Horseshoe Bay, BC and Jeff Arnold of Vernon, BC and father and mother-in law Alan and Elaine MacDonald of Ottawa, Ontario. A life-long public servant, Jim recently served as Deputy Minister with the departments of Fisheries and Agriculture and Aquaculture and formerly with the department of Intergovernmental Affairs. Jim was an avid skier and member of Crabbe Mountain Winter Park Ltd. He took many western excursions with friends George, Ron, Jim & Harry as advance for later ski trips with his family. Jim was a long-standing member of the Fredericton Loyalists Rugby Club that won the Caledonia Cup in 1979. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 3:00 PM at St. George’s Anglican Church, 100 Watson Street, West Saint John. Interment will take place at a later date. No visitation at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the donor charity of choice or to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation or the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation in Fredericton.
