Obituary of Betty Cossey

- On Friday, June 3, 2011, Betty Cossey passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Betty was born Oct 10, 1919 to Richard and Harriett Irwin, in Saint John. She was the wife of the late Allan Cossey. Betty is survived by her son Jim and Pam Cossey of Saint John and her daughter Shawn and Michael Thorne of Fredericton. Her grandchildren, Eric and Lisa Cossey, Jake and Joel Thorne. Betty was predeceased by her husband Allan in 2006, and by her granddaughter Emily Thorne in 2009. Betty served 6 years as a recruiting officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Sergeant and served in various postings across Canada. Betty was a bookkeeper and a homemaker when her children were young. Betty lived most of her married life at 579 Sand Cove Road, and in 2007 she moved to Seeley Lodge in Grand Bay-Westfield. The family would like to thank Jan Seeley and the staff of Seeley Lodge for the love and kindness shown to Mom over the last 4 years. They became her extended family. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 2 PM from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
