Obituary of Douglas Stewart Kerr Skinner
The passing of Douglas Stewart Kerr Skinner, occurred on Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born in Saint John on March 3, 1914, he was the son of the late Roy and Edythe (Kerr) Skinner. Predeceased by one sister, Margaret (Skinner) Wells of Toronto, ON and one brother, Errol Skinner of Victoria, BC. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Chase) Skinner and five nephews, Dr. William Patterson of Saint John, Douglas Patterson of Grand Bay-Westfield, Donald Patterson of Grand Bay-Westfield, Robert Wells of Toronto, ON and Donald Skinner of Victoria, BC. Douglas graduated from Saint John High School in 1931, and his business career was in the insurance business, with the Excelsior Life Insurance Company, as Branch Manager for NB/PEI, before retiring in the late seventies. He was active in sports and his community. In his early years, he was well known for coaching in basketball, and was involved with several successful teams. He was also involved in golf and was very active with both the New Brunswick Golf association and the Maritime Seniors' Golf Association, over the years. He was a longtime member of the St. Andrew's Curling Club, the Westfield Golf Club, the Union Club, St. John's (Stone) Church, the Union Lodge of Portland, Masonic Order and a number of other associations. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM and Friday 2-4 PM only. A private family service will be held at Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel, followed by interment in Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances to St. John's (Stone) Church, the Pulmonary Rehab Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital or the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family.
