Obituary of Cyril Raymond Taylor

The death of Dr. Cyril Raymond Taylor of Valley View Crescent, Saint John West, husband of Joanne L. (Gillies) Taylor, occurred on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Wittenberg, NS, he was the son of the late Woodill and Harriette (Sibley) Taylor. Dr. Taylor was a graduate of Nova Scotia Provincial Normal School and taught school in Nova Scotia. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force and was commissioned as a Pilot during World War II. In 1957 Dr. Taylor received commendation from the RCAF in recognition for his efforts in the rescue mission of the Springhill Mine disaster. Dr. Taylor received his Medical Degree from Dalhousie University in 1953 and was certified in General Surgery. He was on the active medical staff at the Saint John General Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, Lancaster Veteran's Hospital and Centracare. He was a past president of the Saint John Medical Society, member of the New Brunswick Medical Society, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and from 1982-1990 was the Medical Director of the Alcohol and Drug Dependency Commission. Dr. Taylor was a member of Riverside Golf and Country Club and an active member of Germain Street United Baptist Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dr. David Taylor (Cheryl) of Sussex and Dr. Douglas Taylor (Mary Anne) of New Hampshire, two daughters, Beth Halperin (Scott) of Halifax, NS and Barbara Feltham (Gregg) of Switzerland, one brother, Dr. Maynard Taylor (Cassandra) of Florida, grandchildren, David, Natalie and Nicholas Lalonde, Benjamin and Andrew Taylor and Anna and Kate Taylor, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one grand daughter, Julie Anne Lalonde, two brothers, Vernon and Donald and two sisters, Dorothy Fulton and Retha Taylor. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at Germain Street United Baptist Church, on Monday, May 17, 2004 at 10:00 AM. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances to Germain Street United Baptist Church, the IWK Children's Hospital or the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
