Obituary of G. Wesley M. O'Blenis
Surrounded by his family, the death of Wes O’Blenis, husband of Irene (McCarron) O’Blenis occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, August 9, 2011. He was born on April 12, 1940 at Saint John to the late Harley and Jean (Armstrong) O’Blenis. Wes was a retired teacher who taught for more than 20 years, and in later years was a supply teacher at Centennial and Hazen White School. He also worked in various restaurants and bars in the city, and was known as a kind and generous man. He was fortunate that his family all lived close to him, and he enjoyed their company, especially his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. In addition to his wife, Wes is survived by three sons: Michael (Linda) of Saint John, Kevin (Tracey) of Woodman’s Point, and Shane (Kim) of Saint John; four grandchildren: Dermott, Scout, Chenney and Stevie; a sister, Marlene Cain of Saint John; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Wes was predeceased by a sister Beverly Lindsay; and by a brother, William. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 12:05 PM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
