Obituary of Alma Catherine Scott
Alma Catherine Scott of Saint John, wife of the late Walter Francis Scott, passed away peacefully in her 104th year on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the St. John and St. Stephen Church Home, surrounded by her family. Born in Saint John on September 25, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Emily (Trainor) Butler. Alma was a charter member of St. Pius X Parish, and was a 40 year member of the Catholic Women’s League. She and Scotty were instrumental in organizing the Beaus and Belles Square Dancing Club, and devoted many years to the Club. A longtime resident of Lansdowne Avenue, Alma’s door was always open, and she had a gift for making people feel special. She was a care-giver of four generations which was her gift and legacy. She had a special way with animals including our many pets, pigeons, and seagulls; was Nanny to many, and will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. Alma is survived by her children, Dick Scott of Saint John and Lorna Reid (Bill) of St. Catharines, Ontario; grandchildren Heather Dahmer (Scott) of Conestogo, ON, Terri Scott (Randy) of Waterloo, ON, Richard Scott (Izumi) of Ottawa, ON, Scott Reid (Laura) of Guelph, ON, and Jill White (Ryan) of St. Catharines, ON; great grandchildren Jacqueline Boulding, Taisei Scott, Ryoma Scott, Olivia White, and Stella Reid; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alma was predeceased by a son, Bob Scott in 2008; a sister, Jose Kelly; and by brothers Eddie, Art, and Gerry Butler. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday, April 8, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street, on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
