Obituary of Joan Burdon
Surrounded by her family, the passing of Joan Burdon, wife of Fred Burdon occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, September 7, 2012. She was born on January 27, 1921 in England to the late Thomas and Jennie (Owen) Stanley. Joan worked at the Paramount Theatre, Zellers, and Clint Reagan’s for many years until her retirement. She was a very active and life member of St. John’s (Stone) Church and the ACW. Joan was an avid reader, loved comedies, hiking, traveling, camping and loved going on long drives. Besides the love of her life, Fred; Joan is survived by her sons: Don (Pat) of New Maryland, Wayne (Brenda) of Lethbridge, AB, Van (Bill) of Clifton Royal, Jon (Heather) of Saint John, and Ian (Lois) of New Maryland; daughters: Pam Nyers (Jim) of Quispamsis and Shani O’Leary (Tony) of St. Stephen; sponsored son, Joseph Galgalo (Jane) of Kenya; grandchildren: Duane (Caroline), Jennifer, Shelley (Jean-Pierre), Paul, Lisa (Brent), Chris, Janette, Shawn, Eric, Jamie, Natasha, Matthew, and Nathanael; sponsored grandchildren: Faith, Joan (her namesake) and Miriam; seven great-grandchildren; life long best friend, Irene Lee and her son Roger in the UK and several nieces and nephews. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held from St. John’s (Stone) Church, 87 Carleton Street on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to the St. John’s (Stone) Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or MS Society would be appreciated by the family.
