Obituary of Gregory Joseph Brown
It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the passing of Gregory Joseph Brown of Saint John, NB, husband of Dorothy (Smith) Brown, occurred on Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on April 14, 1922, he was a son of the late Cecil and Bertha (King) Brown. In his younger years Gregory worked for Mayfair Theater and General Diary’s. Gregory devoted 35 years of service to the Saint John Fire Department, retiring in 1986 as District Chief. He was an avid skater and loved horses and horse racing. Gregory also had a great passion for collecting coins. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy; son Kevin (Elizabeth "Sis") of Saint John; four grandchildren, Ryan (Stacey) Brown of Kingston, ON; Erika (Arthur) Brow of Saint John; Jo-Ellen (Stephen) Dallon of Edmonton, AB and Jennifer (Pierre) Laviolette of Ottawa, ON; eight great-grandchildren, who they referred to as "Papa Brown". He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Norma Brown; several nieces, nephews and many good friends. Gregory was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Gladys (Leslie) White and Joan Scott; two brothers, Jack and Barry Brown. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Ann’s Church on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 10:00 am. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to St. Ann’s Church Building Fund or the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
