Obituary of Kenneth R. Babcock

It is with sadness that the family of Kenneth Babcock announces his very peaceful passing on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born on September 2, 1927 in Saint John to the late Dufferin Edward and Jennie May (Crossman) Babcock. Kenneth served with the RCASC Militia for 19 years reaching the rank of Sergeant. As a young man and throughout his years in the Reserves, Ken worked a variety of jobs but spent many of those years as a salesman with Sears Canada Inc. until his retirement. Ken had many interests and hobbies and especially enjoyed playing guitar and singing. Ken enjoyed making friends wherever he went and was affiliated with many organizations over the years as both a member and a volunteer. He was a member of the RCL Branch #69 Lancaster and was a member of the SJ Community Suicide Prevention Committee and a member of the SJ Vocational School Alumni. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Burnett; two grandsons: Kalon and Damien, one great grand-daughter Zoey; sister, Doris McKnight; and several nieces and nephews. Kenneth was predeceased by his parents; his son, David; brother, Harold and sister, Marjorie Duffy. The family wishes to extend many warm thanks to all of Ken’s many caregivers both in his home and during his hospitalization. The wonderful Home Care Workers from Bayshore Home Health provided amazing support over the past few years and were greatly appreciated by Ken and will be remembered always with gratitude and great fondness by his daughter, Linda. The staff at the Regional Hospital including the doctors, nurses and the wonderful ‘Sitters’ who stayed by his side at all times through his last days, were all of tremendous help and comfort. The family also wishes to extend thanks to the wonderful staff at Brenan’s Funeral Home including Adam Martin, Funeral Director; Mel Fawcett, Officiant and Barry Snodgrass, Pianist. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). At the family’s request there will be no visitation. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at a later date in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
