Obituary of I. Myrtle Downey

Ida "Myrtle" Downey of Saint John, wife of the late James Turner Downey, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Loch Lomond Villa at the age of 102. Born in Bull Moose Hill, Belleisle Creek, on September 18, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Whitfield and Clara (Gray) Jones. Myrtle worked for Manchester Robertson Allison Department Store and the Saint John General Hospital. She was a member of Brookville United Church and Glen View United Church, where she was active with the UCW. In her spare time, Myrtle enjoyed sewing for friends and neighbours, and loved driving. Myrtle is survived by her sister, Agnes White of Saint John; six nephews, Bill McNichol (Nicole) of Moncton, Gerald Jones (Barbara) of Saint John, Doug Jones (Shirley) of Quispamsis, Phil Jones of Grand Bay-Westfield, Edward Jones of Saint John, and Garth Jones (Hope) of Quispamsis; two nieces, Colleen Sutherland (Bill) of Halifax, and Bonnie McNichol of Potsdam, New York. In addition to her husband, Myrtle was predeceased by brothers Willard Jones and Percy Jones. Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 2:00 PM from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
