Obituary of G. E. Norman Hansen

G. E. Norman Hansen of Saint John died peacefully on Monday, November 19, 2012 at the Ridgewood Veteran’s Unit. Born in Saint John on May 11, 1921, he was the eldest son of the late Ned and Elsie (McGee) Hansen. He was predeceased by his wife and childhood sweetheart Phyllis (Ballard) Hansen, his brother Raymond and sister-in-law Betty. Norman is survived by his four sons, Fr. Paul Hansen, C.Ss.R. of Toronto, Karl Hansen (Pauline) of Saint John, Tony Hansen (Marylou) of Charlottetown, and Joel Hansen (Joanne) of St. Stephen; his daughter, Mary Jane Hansen of Saint John; his brother, Douglas Hansen of St. Stephen; a sister-in-law, Mary Hansen of Chapel Grove; many cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. A Veteran of World War II, Norman was stationed in various Canadian Consulates in the United States and the Canadian Embassy in Washington. He was a member of Branch #69 of the Royal Canadian Legion, and was a life long member of St. Peter’s Church in Saint John and St. Bridget’s Church in Chapel Grove. Norman was a Fourth Degree Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and loved Fueling the Future through the Irving Chicken Noodle Soup Club. He was an Irving alumnus, having retired as Supervisor of Purchasing and Sales at the Irving Refinery. He and his wife enjoyed many winters in St. Petersburg, Florida, as a snow bird. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, November 22, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, 50 Clarendon Street, on Friday, November 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
