Obituary of Everett Rankine Magnusson

Everett Rankine Magnusson, son of Harry and Dorthy ("Dot" Rankin) Magnusson passed away on January 1st, 2013 after a courageous battle against multiple myeloma. Everett, known as "Mag" by most, returned to Saint John from Montreal with his wife Reta Marie ("Re" Nelson) after retiring from DomFer in 1984. They shared a wonderful retired life between their homes in Rothesay, Florida and the old school house in Chamcook with their grandchildren Melanie, Lana and Lars, nieces and nephews; with a special mention of Peter and Pat Himmelman, who all held a very special place in his heart. Mag is survived by his son Brian Magnusson and his daughter-in-law Sandi of Chamcook, New Brunswick and Hazelton British Columbia, and his son Paul Magnusson of Manhattan, N.Y.; his sister Marion Kierstead of Ottawa, Ontario and his brother Don Magnusson of Calgary Alberta; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mag loved to play bridge with friends, board games and cards with his grandchildren. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking. He loved to drive and travel - or delighted in his trips with his second family, the George and Pauline (Nelson) Himmelman clan. A memorial service will be held in early summer at the little stone church Chapel Of Ease - St. John The Baptist Anglican Church in Chamcook. The family would appreciate donations to Extra-Mural Care Rothesay, St Joseph Hospital Transitional Care Unit, or the Oncology Department of the Saint John Regional Hospital. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424).
