Obituary of Vera Gertrude Mooney

The death of Vera Gertrude Mooney of Saint John occurred on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Wirral, NB, Vera was a daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Donovan) Mooney, and spent most of her life in Saint John. A graduate of Mount Carmel Academy and the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing, she practiced her entire career in Saint John, retiring from the West Saint John Community Hospital. Vera was a parishioner of St. Pius X Church, and a member of the Catholic Women’s League, the New Brunswick Association of Registered Nurses, a life member of the Saint John General Hospital Alumni, and a charter member of the Carleton Curling Club. Vera was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by her brother J. Clarence Mooney and by her sister, Winnifred M. O’Neill, as well as a nephew, John Mooney. She is survived by nephews John O’Neill (Mary) of Saint John and Gerald Mooney (Karen) of Wirral; and by her late nephew John’s wife, Diane Mooney of Wirral. Vera is also survived by several great and great great nieces and nephews, and by several cousins. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday, January 7, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street, Saint John, on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 10:00 AM.
