Obituary of R. Shirley Northrup

Surrounded by her loving family the death of Shirley Northrup, wife of Al Northrup occurred at the Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor on Saturday, January 19, 2013 after a long courageous battle with various illnesses. She was born on August 28, 1929 in Saint John to the late John and Florence (Caithness) Robinson. Shirley spent the majority of her life in Saint John before moving to Pennsylvania. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother; dedicating her life to her family. In Saint John, Shirley was an active member of Holy Trinity Parish being a member of the CWL and starting and operating the Kindergarten. In Pennsylvania she volunteered at Morristown Memorial Hospital and Pocono Medical Centre. Shirley was truly a selfless woman, put everyone else before her. Besides her husband of over 65 years, Al; She is survived by her four sons: Richard (Dorina), James (Denise), Douglas (Donna) and Mark (Karen); three daughters: Elizabeth Manno (Kent), Patricia Northrup and Susan Northrup (Margot); grandchildren: Andrew, Jacki, Stephen, Vicki, Sarah, Samantha, Jennifer, Jamie, Hannah and Collin; great-grandchildren: Hunter, Joshua, Benjamin and Lily; special niece, Paula Robinson and several other nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her parents; sister, Patricia Ciappara and brother, Jack Robinson. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Trinity Church, Rockland Road on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 12 noon. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
