Obituary of V. Lloyd Sumner Hughes
The death of Vernon "Lloyd" Hughes of Saint John, husband of the late Clea (Harvie) Hughes occurred on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Calais, ME, on September 29, 1922, he was the son of the late Arthur and Matilda (Irving) Hughes. Prior to his retirement, Lloyd was employed as a crane operator with Saint John Shipbuilding. Lloyd is survived by his daughters, Deborah Hughes and Tawni Hughes both of Saint John; his sister, Mildred Harvie of Lepreau; several nieces and nephews; as well as special canine companions, Halle and Ginger. He was predeceased by sisters, Edwina Fraser and Elizabeth Farquharson and brother, Arthur. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday, September 9, and Tuesday, September 10, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances made to the SJRH Heart Function Clinic, Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
