Obituary
Obituary of Geraldine Flower
It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Gerry Flower (Smith). A lifelong resident of Saint John, Gerry was a successful businesswoman who owned and operated several Woolcraft stores during the 70's and 80's and, later in her business career, owned and operated Mayfair Shoe Salon located in Brunswick Square. Gerry was very progressive for her generation. An independent thinker, she was an entrepreneur long before women in business was a common practice. Mom was a gourmet cook, a fantastic knitter and seamstress and loved sharing the results of her labour, but her greatest passion was her grandchildren, Christine, Michael and Andrew Thorne, Madeleine Flower and Olivia Thorne-Sparkes. Gerry was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Flower; her mother, Bertha Smith nee Beyea; her brother, Robert Smith, and her beloved niece, Gail MacKay. She is survived by her children, Linda Thorne (Terry); Judy Flower and Paul Flower (Florence); her sister, Arlene Birchard (Peter), and brothers, Kenny Smith; Ron Smith (Marie); Gerry Smith (Patsy) and several nieces and nephews. Nan, you will be missed. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 am at St. David's United Church in Rothesay. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society and Romero House.
