Obituary of Mabelle Gertrude Sparkes
With her family at her side the death of Mabelle Sparkes, wife of the late John Sparkes occurred on December 27, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was born on September 4, 1921 at Victoria Corner, NB to William and Lula (Somers) Heywood. Mabelle received her Bachelor’s Degree from Olivet Nazarene University and her Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois. She spent her career as an educator both as a teacher and principal. She is survived by her daughters: Jacqueline Davis (Larry) of Naples, FL, Saundra MacKenzie (Stuart) of Halifax, NS, as well as mother to a number of foster children; brother, Steve Haywood (Shirley); sister, Mary Bridgeo; grandchildren, Kelly, Dusty, Laury, D. Grant, Morgan, Hannah, Dylan; and many great and great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; parents; brothers: Roy, Don, Bliss and Rex; sister, Ella. Resting at River Valley Wesleyan Church, 45 Ridge Way, Grand Bay-Westfield on Tuesday December 31, visitation starting at 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at a later date inSackville, New Brunswick. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).For those who wish, remembrances to St. Joseph’s Hospital would be appreciated by the familyor to a charity of choice.
