Obituary of Nelson G. MacDonald
With his family at his side the death of Nelson MacDonald occurred at Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. He was born on March 21, 1922 at Belyea’s Cove to the late George and Lottie (McKenzie) MacDonald. Nelson was a veteran of World War II serving with the Canadian Army Signal Corps in Europe including, France, Belgium and Germany. Following the war, Nelson had a long career with Labatt Breweries working in shipping and receiving. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #64. Nelson was a figure head at Wal-Mart selling tickets for various charities . He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Nelson was predeceased by his brother, Willard and sisters: Dorothy "Dolly" Ferrar and Elsie "Babe" Moore. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service will be held Sunday at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in Belyea’s Cove Cemetery in the spring. For those who wish, remembrances to the Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family.
