Obituary of Gerald Daniel Melanson
Gerald Daniel Melanson – With his family at his side the death of Gerald Melanson, husband of the late Margaret Aileen (Driscoll) Melanson occurred at The Moncton Hospital on, Wednesday, January 22, 2014. He was born on August 6, 1926 in Saint John to the late Joseph and Jeannie (McCraig) Melanson. Gerald was a veteran of World War II serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force. During his career Gerald worked for NBTel as a field engineer and office supervisor. He volunteered with Scouts Canada, as Holy Trinity Troop leader and District Commissioner, and was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus. Gerald is survived by his children: Gerald (Rona) of Alberta, Therese Melanson-Embree (Roger – predeceased) of Saint John, NB, Constance Melanson-Savoy (Bernard) of Moncton, Raymond (Jenny) of Lethbridge AB, Christopher (Krisann) of Quispamsis, Mark of Saint John, Donna Lewis (John) of Acamac; Andrew (Susan) of Scottsdale AZ; sisters: Therese O’Keefe, Josephine Melanson, and Bernadette ‘Dolly’ Melanson; eleven grandchildren, (6 great-grandchildren) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Aileen; parents, brother; John and sister Alice Cobham. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church, 306 Somerset Street on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Greater Moncton Association for Community Living an organization that Gerald thought highly of and supported, or the charity of donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
