Obituary of G. Irene Griffin
Surrounded by her loving family, the death of Gloria "Irene" Griffin, wife of the late Cyril Griffin, occurred on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Bobby’s Hospice. Born August 10, 1931 she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes (Garnett) Burley. A life-long resident of the North End, Irene enjoyed her community; she had a girls’ group at St. Luke’s Church for several years, and volunteered at the North End Food Bank. She also loved to escape to her trailer in Lake Utopia. Her favourite thing in life was spending time with her family- especially her two grandsons, who were the apples of her eye. Irene will be missed by her daughters: Lynda Theriault (John Donkin) and Shelley Speight (Eugene), both of Saint John; grandsons: Justin Speight (Sarah Harding) and Blake Speight; her great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Elizabeth Speight; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Kevin Burley Griffin in 1991; brothers: Thomas Burley, Donald Burley, and Gordon Burley; and sisters: Peggy Dunham and Connie Noyes. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, 634-7424, with private family visiting on Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 7-9 PM and public visiting on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 10:00 AM from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery at a later date. Remembrances to Bobby’s Hospice would be appreciated by the family. Please place online condolences at www.brenansfh.com.
