Obituary of Bertha Elizabeth Nichols RN
Nichols, Bertha Elizabeth RN (nee Crealock) SJGH Class of 1944 Bertha Elizabeth Nichols, widow of the late Arthur Nichols, passed away peacefully at the Loch Lomond Villa on Friday February 28, 2014, four days shy of her 93rd birthday. She was born on March 4, 1921 and was the youngest child of the late Archibald and Nettie (Secord) Crealock. Bertha was predeceased by her siblings, Mary Norton (Vaughan), John (Lucy), Stella Folkins (Talmage), Charles (Tressa) and Jean Smith (Fred). She was the last surviving member of her Crealock generation. She was the much loved mother of son, Brian (Monique) of Ottawa, ON, and daughters, Beverly of Halifax, NS and Bonnie Hondas (William) of Calgary, AB. Cherished grandmother of Daniel and Stefan Nichols, Nicholas, Alexander and Andrea Hondas and great-grandmother of Deacon Hondas and Mikaila and Charli Nichols. She is also survived by her brother-in law, Jack Nichols, sisters-in law Isabel Vienneau and Bernice Nichols, as well as many nephews and nieces. Bertha was a proud Registered Nurse who spent most of her career in the neo-natal unit of the Saint John General Hospital. A special thank you to the staff of Loch Lomond Villa as well as cousin, Margo Raid, for their caring and compassionate attention provided to our mother. The family will receive relatives and friends during visitation on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424). Funeral will be held in the Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 12 pm. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by the family.
