Obituary of Nancy Ann Harper Fisher
Nancy Ann Harper Fisher of Saint John and New River Beach, New Brunswick and New Smyrna Beach, Florida died April 3, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born in 1936 in Moncton, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late F. Carleton and Dorothy S. Fisher. She graduated from Saint John High School and Syracuse University, New York and worked for many years in provincial health departments in New Brunswick, British Columbia and Nova Scotia. In the 1980s she returned to Saint John where she worked as a private consultant in health information systems. Nancy was active in the community as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Saint John and she also volunteered at the visitor’s center in New Smyrna Beach. She was also a member of the Fundy Duplicate Bridge Club in Saint John and the Deland Bridge Club in Florida, and she frequently competed at American Contract Bridge events throughout Florida. Nancy loved summers in New River Beach and her beautiful flower gardens and filled her winters in Florida playing bridge, golf, tennis, cycling and walking the beach. Nancy is survived by a number of cousins and she leaves behind a wide circle of friends in Saint John and New Smyrna Beach. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). At the request of Nancy there will be no visiting at the funeral home. A memorial service will take place at Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday April 10, 2014 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow at Brenan’s Reception Centre. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
