Obituary of Major Robert Bruce McPherson
Major Robert Bruce McPherson, CD Retired, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, after a short period of failing health. Born in Saint John, May 6, 1922 to the late J. Bruce McPherson and Gladys Rae (Hamm), he was employed by Department of National Revenue for over 30 years and then continued with Scotiabank Regional Office, after retirement. He served overseas during WWII as an officer with the North Shore New Brunswick Regiment and, following the war, remained in Germany transferring POW’s and conducting "Nosey Parker" patrols searching houses for weapons and evidence of Nazism. Upon his return he continued serving for an additional 15 years with the Reserve Army retiring as a Major Acting Commanding Officer of Royal New Brunswick Regiment. Was a Charter Member and Past President of Lancaster Kiwanis Golden K. Service Club, Director of the Royal United Services,a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 69, St. Andrew’s Society and served on several committees as a member of St. Mark’s United Church. Known to all as the "Perfect Gentleman", he is survived by sons Andrew (Karen) of Seattle, Washington, David (Susan) of Saint John and granddaughter Jessica. Predeceased by his wife Dorothy, and parents J. Bruce McPherson and Gladys Rae (Hamm). Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). There will be no visitation. The Celebration of "The Perfect Gentleman" will take place on Wednesday October 22, 2014 at 12:00 on at Brenan’s Chapel. In Lieu of flowers, remembrances to Saint John High School Centennial Scholarship Fund or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
