Obituary of Norman Carmichael Sinclair, E. D.

Retired partner of Coopers & Lybrand, Chartered Accountants. Born at New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, in 1921, fifth generation of Scottish immigrants to Pictou and Guysborough Counties. He grew up in New Glasgow, served with the Royal Canadian Artillery from 1939 to 1945 and afterwards with the reserve army, retiring in 1959 as Lt Col. He attended Dalhousie University, before and after the war and was a founding member of The Beaver Club at Kings College. He worked for 15 years in the oil industry in Venezuela, Alberta and New Brunswick. He joined McDonald, Currie & Company (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) in 1962 and retired in 1982. He was a Past President of the Petroleum Accountants Society of Western Canada and also of The New Brunswick Institute of Chartered Accountants. Following retirement he served as Vice-President, Finance of the 1985 Canada Summer Games. He was an ardent fisherman and a keen curler and golfer, a member of the Union club and a Past President of The Riverside Country Club. He married Winona Cullingham of Toronto, in 1948, who predeceased him in 2003. They had three children. He is survived by Jane (Glen) Little Harbour NS, Jim (Debbie) Moncton NB, Alan (Charline) Nanaimo BC, and grandchildren Kate, Nora, Emily, Nicholas, and Ian. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Church of St. John & St. Stephen, Coburg Street, Saint John on Friday, October 22, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Sinclair will then be taken to Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia for visiting on Friday, October 29, 2004 from 1-3 p.m. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Epilepsy Canada or a charity of the donor's choice.
