Obituary of Ida Dorothy McElman
Ida Dorothy McElman, wife of the late Stewart Douglas passed away on June 16, 2015 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, on August 8, 1930 she was a daughter of the late William and Helena (Urquhart) Armstrong. Before retiring Ida worked for Irving Oil for over 17 years. She was an avid bingo player and would play where ever and whenever she could. Ida enjoyed doing many things with her hands, and was often sewing, needle pointing or working with stained glass. Survived by her daughter, Lorena Robertson (Brian) of Rothesay; granddaughter, Hillary Robertson of Waterloo, ON; a very special niece, Helena Bennett, who spent many hours with Ida, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband Ida was predeceased by her sister, Irma Veino. At Ida’s request there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 2:00 PM from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, 634-7424. Interment to take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of The Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their excellent service, compassion and care for Ida.
