Obituary of Nancy Lou Dowd
The untimely passing of Nancy Dowd of Saint John, loving and cherished partner of Robert Couillard, occurred on Monday, July 4, 2022 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on November 10, 1952 in Saint John, she was a much-loved daughter of the late Bill and Jean (Humphrey) Dowd.
Nancy had a long working career as a nurse and retired from nursing at the Carleton Kirk. This was a profession she truly enjoyed and where many lifelong friendships were made. Nancy was a woman who always took great comfort in her catholic faith. She was an original parishioner of St. Peter’s Church…where she celebrated many of life’s special events. Upon the churches’ closing, Nancy chose to worship at Holy Redeemer Parish. Nancy lived life to its fullest, embracing everything that came at her with open arms. Her adventurous spirit was second to none and rumor has it she would try anything at least once. She never shied from anything and especially enjoyed motorcycle rides, day trips, skiing and those scary amusement park rides. She loved to travel and found great peace on a beach surrounded by the beautiful ocean saltwater. For those who really knew Nancy, you knew she was good with a dollar, you knew she loved a good bargain and you knew she would often travel 10 miles to save 10 cents. Most of all, Nancy enjoyed the times of family togetherness and especially the times with those precious grandchildren…whom she treasured and loved dearly.
In addition to Robert, Nancy will be lovingly remembered by the father of her children and dear friend, Frank Comeau; children, Laurie Leger-Lester (Steve) of Grand Bay-Westfield and Michael Comeau (Helen) of Summerville; brothers and sisters, Bruce Dowd (Ruth), Terry Dowd (Rosella), Cindy McKenna (Tom) and Maureen Keenan (Mike); adored grandchildren, Mallory (Cruise), Regan (Evan), Zachary, Bryce and Jacob; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Marilyn Boyce, Pat Patten and Bill Dowd; special sister-in-law, Diane Dowd and son-in-law, David Leger.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where visitation will take place on Monday, July 11, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Redeemer Parish, 316 Somerset Street, Saint John on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada - Atlantic Canada Branch.
