I knew Paula as a dedicated mental health nurse, and warm accepting person with a "wicked sense of humour"
As a nursing instructor, I could always count on Paula to take my students under her protective wings" and show them the ropes.
She included me in many of her sessions and I learned from her on so many levels about mental health nursing but also about life.
I will miss her infectious smile and remember how much she was loved by all.

To the Family, all of you. I was fortunate enough to know Paula from my nursing days. She was the most joyous person , I know, and yet underneath she had a special empathy as we both had lost daughters. That empathetic nature let her help so many.
You knew when Paula walked into a room, the joy, the laughter and the charged air , sometimes in many coulours. Such a presence and that will continue to be with you. Look for her in the beautiful colours in the sky.
My deepest condolences to all. Muriel Baxter Flood

To Pat, and to Paula's children -
To John, Tom, Maime, Carmel, Dino, AA, Christine, and Caroline -
So very saddened and shocked to learn yesterday of Paula's passing.
I am deeply sorry, my heart goes out to all of you in your immense grief with the loss of Paula - a beautiful, vibrant, passionate person and dynamic centre of your family.
This is hard to fathom really. Going back 6 decades to when John and Tom were my first friends in Grades 2 & 1, and Paula and sisters were mere babes on the floor of 134. The playtimes and hang-outs in the Elliot Row/Crown & Union streets/Chown Field vicinities ... visiting proud new parents Paula and Pat in T.O. in late 1984 when Liam was an infant ... Paula assisting, through her vast community resource knowledge, my elderly Mom Betty to maintain her independent living ... Paula supporting me in applying for a Social Work job that Paula graciously said she hoped would return me to Surf City. There's so much more memories.
Paula was, and is a bedrock for her family, friends, and community.
Bedrock doesn't shift. She's still it. Such a big-hearted, caring, generous person so willing and able to help out people.
Paula was fun-loving, life-loving, indomitable, full-of-character!
She will be deeply missed. To all of you, I am so sorry.
Wish I could have been present this evening to celebrate Paula's wondrous life.
Yours truly,
Gordie LaRocque

Paula was the most hilarious, outrageous, mischievous, compassionate person we have ever met. When I think of StFX one of my first thoughts is of her dancing in the halls of Fraser house, shaking her bangles to Fleetwood Mac Sometimes fully dressed, often in her underwear. It is clear from all of the tributes that she will live on in the stories we tell and the memories we share. Love you always Paula.
Our condolences to her big beautiful family.

Dear Pat, all of the McDonough and the McGinnis family members,
For as long as I can remember, whenever I met up with Paula it was like there was no time lost in between seeing one another. This amazing woman was fun, smart, kind, caring, compassionate and could make you laugh without even trying. I loved that she was one of the few from my age group who called my mother "Mackie". (Mom loved that!) I can't fathom the huge hole that Paula's passing has left in so many hearts. I ache for all of you who were especially close to Paula and I know that number is a huge one. I pray that you'll be bolstered up by all the wonderful memories of happy times you all shared with our dear Paula.

So sorry and shocked to hear about Paula and our condolances, from myself, Richard and Jenna,
to Pat and their large family of children, grandchildren, her siblings and all relatives on both sides of the family.
I just saw Paula at the Queen concert with her siblings looking so happy very recently. She was a born comedian, and during intermission, I felt my dress being hiked up in the back by the bottle she was drinking out of.
So funny and always so warm and generous. It was so good to see her once again as it had been awhile.
She made all those years of nursing together go by faster and more fun when she was around. She will be truly missed by everyone who knew her.

To Pat, Liam, Jane Ann, Seamus, Fiona, Malachy, and Mairi,
I am so, so sorry for your loss. Like you, I cannot imagine a world without Paula in it. Nor can I imagine one she'd never been in. She was a force of nature and of Love. Her kindness and joy and laughter lit up this life like a beacon. She had a gift for making everyone feel special, as though we were an integral piece of some bigger picture only she could see.
When your family arrived in our quiet, little Mount Pleasant neighbourhood, my father had recently passed away and you filled an incomprehensible emptiness in my 8-year-old heart. You welcomed me into your home and your family without hesitation, as though you'd been expecting me and I'd finally arrived. You answered a prayer I had not yet prayed and I am a better human because of you.
And, to Paula, you left before I had a chance to thank you, so I will do it now.
For your beautiful children and, in turn, for theirs; for your courage and vulnerability, and connection long before it became a trendy hash-tag. For laughing like you meant it. For doing every damn thing like you meant it. For. Making. Us. Laugh. For calling us on our shit. For your grief and your dedication to grow your family and your love even stronger because of it. For making so many of us feel welcome. For making sure we knew we belonged. For the joy. For the giving and giving and giving. For the hours of conversation. For sneaky smoking out back. For that time we were in the Cambridge Narrows and we'd been there for days and it had been raining for days and you had had enough of us kids so you packed me and Liam, Jane, and Seamus into one of the Peugots and we drove. All afternoon you drove. I was a teenager at the time and it had never occurred to me that one's problems could be resolved by driving around the sodden countryside drinking coffee and telling stories. Thank you for your many wisdoms, your love of literature and learning. For trying and failing and trying again. For knowing when to be sloppy and when to be reverent. For giving us permission to be who we are. For making sure we didn't take ourselves too seriously and yes, for reminding us we're just a bunch of BASTARDS!

Paula blessed us all with rich memories and tales…in grade 9 at Aberdeen I went through a growth spurt of 20 pounds and 5 inches. I relayed to Paula, who sat behind me, that I had to ditch my duds as they were stretched to the limits. This included my prized Murphy Jeans that I had bought only months before. They were riding a couple of inches above my ankles. Paula volunteered to take them off my hips. The next day she strutted her highly torqued, hip hugging Murphy Jeans on the “Runway “ halls of AJHS. The fashion editors from Vogue were not in attendance but the testosterone- fuelled gents of the parish ogled in eye-popping approval. Where the Murphy seams sagged on me, they hugged Paula’s emerging curves proudly. They were “fittingly “ sinful to be precluded from viewing at the Cathedral. To this day, I beam with pride knowing I shared threads with this wonderful, vivacious spirit that I have always cherished. Our hearts (Kathleen and Mike Lynch) ache for Pat and family. God Bless.

My heart breaks for you all. I was devastated to hear the sad news. I met Paula when I was at Mt. A. and went to St.FX to visit Fiona. To say that Paula was larger than life is an understatement! She was filled with mischief, love, laughter and outrageousness! Her arms welcomed all and she left her mark on everyone she met. Her tongue was quick and her retorts quicker. On her visits to Bermuda, she hugged deeply and I always left the party with sore cheeks from so much laughter! She will leave a huge void in the lives of all who knew and loved her. However, there will be many happy memories and Paula stories for years to come. I will be raising a glass to dear Paula as I know she would want to be the life if the party one more time. Sending love, hugs and happy memories to her loved ones!

To Mary , the McGinnis' and Pat and family, My deepest condolences for such an unthinkable loss.
To think of Paula, is to recall my treasured memories, of Paula the teenager, the recent grad from 'X' on 4CN, her baby shower hosted by Mary for baby Liam, and Mary's updates of Paula's great kids and the love of her life Pat. She is unforgettable and my memories of her are treasured. She was kind, vibrant and a dear friend to many. To her close friends my sympathies as well. You too are a part of her much loved family. To say I am sorry for your loss is such an understatement. She was an amazing person. We were speaking of her last month and someone said they were not sure if they had met her; we all responded "Then you didn't, because if you did, you would know" If the memories you leave behind are a measure of your life, then Paula lead a full one. Condolences to all.

All the same feels, joy, laughter and a few Bastards here and there thrown in, along with some other unmentionable words! She never failed to leave you, just the way she liked, in shock & awe, laughing out loud with tears running down your cheeks. Thank you Paula, for being uniquely you! Paula reconnected with me relatively recently, when she learned I had experienced the loss of my younger son. She reached across many years with such love and understanding, I felt seen and heard. Pat and family. I’m so very sorry for your heartbreaking loss. I will forever remember Paula and Pat from the old days 36 -38 years ago in Toronto, when her cousin Jim Campbell and I would get on the subway and come visit. We were all just beginning our journey’s as adults. Pat was at the Clarke Institute. Jim and I would babysit Liam or we would just get together and laugh. I remember Paula as being so warm and loving and funny as hell. In fact both Paula and Pat were inspiring to me because of their inclusive energy and compassion for those with mental health challenges. I too eventually went on too work in the mental health and addiction field with a MSW, always thinking back to Pat and Paula. As someone who married into the Campbell family I was privileged to get to know Paula’s brother Tom too, being as we lived in Vancouver later. I’m so grateful that my two daughters Baaron and Ariel were able to meet Pat and Paula and other members of the McGuinness family when they travelled to New Brunswick with their Dad a few years ago. They too were struck by her engaging presence and how beloved she was by all.
Staying in touch with Paula and Tom on Facebook, I could see how proud Paula was of her children and grandchildren and how close she remained with her siblings. The hole she has left in all of your hearts will be difficult to ever fill but she will live on in every beautiful smile on your family’s faces and in every laugh or tear you share. Her light and laughter will be a forever memory of so many who were blessed to have met her. You are all in my thoughts and prayers as I offer heartfelt condolences. Blessings, Kim Sparks (Campbell).

Pat, Liam, Jane, Seamus, Malachy, and Mairi, McInnis and McDonough families. While I am shocked and heartbroken, I can only imagine the depth of devastation and loss you are all experiencing. Paula had a heart as big as her body and a larger than life personality. When I first came to New Brunswick I was fortunate enough to get hired onto the Seniors Mental Health team, where Paula ensured I felt welcomed, and took me under her wing to show me how the team worked. She was a wonderful nurse and coworker, and I was happy to consider her a confidant and friend. I loved Paula and will cherish the many memories I got to create with her through work and socially. While this is so unbelievably unfair, the one thing we can be sure of is that The angels are singing louder and more beautifully now that Paula has joined their heavenly choir. May you her family find strength and comfort in the memory of how she cherished each and everyone of you. Rest easy my friend.

So sorry to hear the passing of Paula. My husband Michael had known Pat and Paula from a very young age. I had the blessing to meet them both a long time ago and spend some time with them. Upon meeting Paula it became very clear what an amazing person she was. She would light up any room she entered with her smile, humor, love for mankind, compassion and so much more!.
Throughout the years our paths would cross from time to time and often included her making a comment that would bring those in attendance to first shock and then to their knees with laughter.
Paula was genuine, `Truly a Beautiful Soul`.
