My Uncle Tim was so kind, patient, and intelligent - he knew about so many interesting things!! His enthusiasm for his passions was so engaging and his curiosity infectious. I have such fond and funny memories of time spent with Uncle Tim, my amazing Auntie Irene, and all their lovely, lovely friends when I came to Saint John for an extended visit in 2008. It is so sad to have lost Uncle Tim so soon after our beloved Mum Mary and though I know the gang is now reunited in Heaven, we will miss them all so much. RIP, Love Rosie (Rosamund).

Rosie, Tim and Irene loved you and your siblings so much. And were so proud of you all. I’m so glad we got to spend time with you and Catherine and Irene. Even though we didn’t meet the others, they talked about you all so much, I feel as though I met them too. You were as special to them as they to you. love, Mary

We are so sad that wonderful, funny, kind Uncle Tim is no longer with us, but happy that he is with Auntie Irene up in heaven, and no doubt having a good old laugh at us with our Mum Mary and Dad Tony. What a wonderful life he led that touched so many people. I have loved reading the tributes to our clever Uncle. Rest In Peace Uncle Tim. Lots of love Alison xxx

Tim & Irene/Irene & Tim - always said together and always a part of our lives since the 1980s. A pairing of endless kindness and support. Tim has always been a true gentleman, calm and caring while driven to excellence in his ship design vocation. We will miss the company, the twinkling smile, the focused plans that he shared and the carefully laid out and presented cakes and cookies that came with any afternoon cup of tea. Our house will be the emptier for missing his visits.

I was honoured to know Tim during the frigate program and later the Marco Polo 2 design project.
His abilities and enthusiasm seemed endless. Nothing was ever a problem for Tim. Some problems just required a little more thinking.
Memories of Tim include the big station wagon he drove then, the house renovation projects, and the unfortunate Thames sailing barge project.
My condolences to his family, and RIP Tim. I am sure you and Irene will be looking at any improvements that can be made.

Dearest Uncle Tim, I have the best memories of my time spent with my Uncle Tim and Auntie Irene, always so much fun and just a little bit crazy. They were a huge part of our childhood and an enormous support to our mother Mary and father Tony. I know that the four of them are now together and will have brought a little craziness with them to Heaven. Uncle Tim was the best uncle we could ever have and a perfect example of a true gentleman.

Our most wonderful Uncle Tim, you are already so very missed, I can't believe I won't have another chance to walk on the beach with you and Charlie or to put the world to rights in our weekly Zoom calls. We were so lucky to have you as our uncle, and to have so many happy memories from the early days in Montreal to summers all over the world, but mostly in Canada. You were unfailingly kind, wise and gentle as well as so knowledgable about everything, but especially naval history - there was never a shortage of things to talk about! As everyone in our family has said, 'a true gentleman'. I hope you and our beloved Auntie Irene are together in heaven and that we'll all meet again there. Lots of love, Irene xxx

Dear Tim A true gentleman and a lovely brother in law
He had endless patience with us , his three sisters in law when we lived with them both in Canada. So kind to us and also so much fun!! They made us feel so loved, and shared so much of their obvious happiness with us. We were very blessed to share part of our life with them. I know they will be very happy in Heaven, but will be showering lots of Blessings on us all. RIP

Our lovely Uncle Tim. A calm, kind and caring man. I have lovely memories of visiting him and Auntie Irene in Halifax. He gave me my favourite piece of advice - to have a glass of red wine and a piece of dark chocolate every day - something I try to follow! RIP Uncle Tim.
Lots of love, Laura xx

I am grateful to have known both Tim and Irene. I will miss the deep intellectual conversations. He was witty with a quick mind and quite brilliant. I know that he missed Irene deeply. I am sorry for his family's loss, but am glad for Tim that he is reunited with his soul mate.

Rick and I are so sorry for Tim’s family outside of Canada, for the loss of their wonderful brother and uncle/great uncle. We feel so privileged to have been part of Tim and Irene’s Canadian family. We met them decades ago on foreign soil in Hamburg ,Germany where we worked and played together. We shared so much laughter and love. We even lived together for awhile. Tim was one of a kind, so kind, gentle and loving. We will miss him.

His name was Timothy Gordon Rootes, son of Leanord and Trish, brother of John, and Rosamond, adored uncle of many,a brilliant, positively brilliant Naval Architect, who was sought the world over.He was half,of a devoted Increcible Love story, with Irene.Though, married over 50 years, they lived their beautiful love story,on a daily basis,so much so,that they were asked on occasion,if they were newly weds.Tim,and Irene, lived in several, different countries, and cities, but always said they would retire in Saint John N.B,their absolute favourite,,,,,,and many of us and all of our children, would be blessed because of it.
They had the most amazing gatherings, filled with an eclectic group,of friends, always filled with wine, food, and much laughter. They touched each of us with their incredible love, always inclusive, and teaching us all, what was truly Important, though we perhaps Were not aware just how wonderful, the gift of them in our lives had become……
Looking back,I can say, what an amazing gift, both Tim,and Irene have always been to,I think all of their friends,,,,,,,to name a few very devoted friends, and there were many,,,,,,,Don and Helen(Rose)Shepherd,Rick and Mary Hancox,Terry and Heather Reed,Julian, and Jean Kenney,Steve and Linda Harmon,Tom and Louise Cremona,a devoted couple from Maine,in the US.
We often, when to visit, for High Tea,where food was always bountiful, and Love and laughter always on display.
We use to jokingly say, after every visit,we would gain,at least 5 extra pounds.
Some of us had the very great honour of being with them both, through the end sacred stages,of their lives,Don,and Helen,Rick and Mary, and me,Hezzie, and certainly in spirit, and many many lovely phone calls,Tom,and Louise…..and I believe as we gather,to see our wonderful Tim,off on his final voyage,to be with Irene,we will all miss this great gentleman, his mastery of kindness, gentleness, will be greatly missed,in all of our lives…….I’m thinking,we are all a whole lot better, for having you touch our lives with your incredible Love ,Heather Reed.

Dear Loved Ones,
Tom, Rich, and I were so blessed to have Tim and Irene as neighbors in Yorktown, Va. We adopted each other as family. So many amazing memories in Virginia, Halifax, Maine, and St.John. Over the years, we were able to get to know many loved ones by phone or in person. Such an honor. We pray for the repose of Tim's soul and comfort to all his loved ones.
Please know he/they are so missed and prayed for.
Loves, hugs, and prayers,
Tom, Louise, and Rich
