My sincere condolences to Shirley’s family, friends and those she touched during her successful career.
I met Shirley in 1954 when we entered our three years of nursing training at the MGH.
We had a wonderful class and we worked hard and had fun.
Then we went our separate ways BUT many of us saw each other every 5 years for a reunion thereafter.
We had our 65th. reunion this year but Shirley was unable to join the nine of us that were still able to do so.
I am so grateful to read the memories of Shirley and the imprint she left upon those she influenced along the way.
Au revoir, dear Shirley,
Sylvia Adams

My sincere condolences to all of Shirleys family and friends. As a young nurse in the early 80’s Shirley was the best Head Nurse, mentor and nurse extraordinaire that i aspired to be. She gave so willingly to so many and had high expectations for patient care in the Coronary Care Unit! May Shirley rest in peace!

Shirley white known as Dr.White by all the Dalhousie residents back in the ‘90’s; we were all afraid of Shirley because she ran a tight ship; she knew her stuff and she’d call you out if you didn’t, but she would also compliment you appropriately. She was the epitome of a professional, leader, mentor, and many more qualities. She taught me so much as a young nurse and left those traits embedded in me after 34 years of nursing. Shirley has left many medical staff with wonderful memories and stories to share. Thanks for all you gave and taught us.

I am sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing. She was the best Nurse Manager and expertly passed her knowledge of coronary care to so many of us. It was through her teaching that I learned to love this field of nursing. She expected the best from those who worked under her and got it. I am sure she will be missed.
I pray for God’s peace and comfort to her friends and family.

Indeed Shirley was one of a kind and the best kind. Such a role model. She taught every nurse in the general and regional cardiac rhythm interpretation from the 60s to the 90s. I remember struggling and was in mid whine she pulled me up short saying if you can learn neuro ( I too was a Montreal neuro grad too) you can learn this. She was such a great mentor. She held my highest regard and she could be fun too. She was so supportive of me when I began teaching basic rhythm interpretation. I have thought of her frequently.

Shirley was the best head nurse, leader and mentor I have ever met in my 42 year nursing career. She ran a tight ship on the units she was responsible for, always placing the patients and their families at the center of everything we did. She cared greatly for them as well as the nursing staff she led. She was instrumental in the establishment of the New Brunswick Heart Centre guiding the implementation team along the way.
She made me a better caregiver, encouraged me and supported me in finding my footing as a young nurse manager. The path I took early on in my career was greatly influenced by her and I thank her for it. I have so many memories of Shirley. She always looked at any experiences, good or bad, as a learning experience and an opportunity to better yourself.
My deepest sympathies to her family. Rest In Peace my dear Shirley and thank you for everything and everyone you have touched.

She was the best head nurse I ever had in my 35 year nursing career! She was a leader ,problem solver encouraging and always supported her staff in active nursing and education.I would have stayed in ccu but no one came close to her standards after she retired. My favorite memory was the addition of the denture cup to the crash cart after someone’s teeth got thrown out after a code .We carried on that tradition when I left ccu.
