I’m sending this message late as I only just learned of Carey’s passing and I hope Brenan’s will still be able to pass the message to Carey’s family. I haven’t lived in Saint John for many years, but I had kept in contact with Carey and Fran at Christmas until a few years ago. I was Carey’s upstairs neighbour for several years at an apt. at Leighside Park and enjoyed a wonderful friendship with her. I’m shocked and sad to learn of her passing ad well as Fran’s death. I remember one year at Christmas when she and Fran moved to their home on the west side, I made her a wall banner with the twelve days of Christmas on it. Sincere condolences to the family, Kathy Grant. I live in Halifax.

My condolences to Carey Ryan's family, friends and those who knew her best, she will be greatly missed. There was no other like her. She was an amazing teacher and principal at SVHS. I was in the 1983 graduation class.
Years later I worked for Junior Achievement, and she would always emphasize that I was an alumna.
Due to her efforts we always had a great representation from SVHS.
Rest in Peace Ms Ryan, you were an amazing person who will not soon be forgotten.

Carey was one of the first people I met after my arrival on the UNBSJ campus in 2003, and her support, interest, commitment and intelligence were wonderful. She was always ready to contribute - always more than 100% - and with her positive spirit she could see potential even in the face of obstruction. Education was her passion, and it showed in everything she did for UNB - and I know from many conversations with former students that as teacher and principal she had a major impact on many lives.
My deepest condolences to Carey's family. She will be missed by many people.

My deepest condolences to Carey’s family- I know how much she loved you .She took great delight in the smallest and youngest when she was free to be with them. I first met Carey at Holy Trinity School - she had a swarm of little students around her - graceful, calm and in charge. She took her talents to St. Vincent’s so that gifted or challenged, happy or sad her students received the best a school could deliver. Her involvement at UNB was joyful and fruitful- Fran always a collaborator! We ended up “ lining up” platform guests at UNBSJ graduations - full circle. Her resolve and her courage over recent years are humbling.May she Rest In Peace.

Louise and I are deeply saddened by the news of Carey’s passing. I first met Carey in the fall of 1969 when we were students at UNB Fredericton. In the years that followed our friendship became a constant. Carey shared a serenity and grace that I deeply valued. Those individuals who have been privileged to know Carey have a clear understanding of her commitment to education and her community. Carey was more than generous in sharing her time and as a result whole generations of young people are the beneficiaries of her vast talents. Carey’s devoted service to St. Vincent’s High School and her imaginative initiative ~ the Belfast Children’s Vacation, along with her continuing involvement with UNB Alumni activities stand as clear evidence of her inspirational vision. In our sorrow we should remember an important truth by giving thanks that Carey was present in our lives. Louise and I extend our heartfelt condolences to all the members of Carey’s family.

Deepest sympathy to all the Family. I was one of the first group of kids to arrive to Saint John from Belfast and Carey welcomed me into her home and heart with open arms. I returned again when I was 16 and spent a month with Carey and Fran and was welcomed by her brother and nieces. I can’t even begin to describe how I felt when I heard the news that she passed. I am just so glad that I got to tell her I loved her when Fran passed. Rest Easy Carey and thank you from the bottom of my heart for being in my life. Back in the arms of Fran until we meet again x Love Bronagh Allie and the Maguire Clan x

I met Carey as a kid when Fran & my Dad Umpired baseball together. Many a game was spent in Carey’s company. When I attended St Vincent’s, Carey was my Guidance Counsellor, followed by many contacts through the Alumni. I will miss both Carey & Fran. I love ❤️ them both & pray they are together in Heaven.

I am so saddened to hear of this great loss. I most enjoyed our time together on the St. Vincent’s scholarship committee. Carey was so supportive of all of her St. Vincent’s “girls” and I was proud to be among them. Rest easy.

My deepest condolences to you all for the loss of Ms. Ryan. She took such pride in all of us as her last girl's graduating class of St. Vincent's in 2002. Her commitment to all of us, not only as our Principal but as our mentor and then fellow Alumni, was steadfast. She made St. Vincent's not just a school but a home to us for the years we were there, and her devotion knew no bounds. She helped shape who we have become, and I will cherish my memories of her always.
