Obituary of Victoria "Vicki" Lynn Fleming
Surrounded by prayer and the love of her family and chosen family, Victoria Lynn Fleming, wife of David W. Fleming, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on her 36th birthday, Friday, September 30, 2022. Born in Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of Kim (Trecartin) and Bruce Thorne.
Vicki was a proud graduate of Saint John High School Class of 2004 and then graduated from UNB Saint John in 2009 with her BA and BED. She taught at various schools in the Saint John area and retired from Westfield Elementary School in 2014 due to illness. Teaching gave her a sense of purpose and she delighted in the stories from “her kids” in her Grade 3 French Immersion class. Each child was special, and she made sure they knew it.
David and Victoria met in French class and got to know each other better through mutual friends. Their love flourished and they were married in December 2011. They shared many games nights and drives, and she spoiled their fur babies, Charlie and Willie.
Vicki’s greatest joys in life were her niece and nephews, and her best friends’ children whom she treated as nieces and nephews. She was “Beep” to her sister’s daughter, Aria; “Auntie Tora” to her sister-in-law’s sons, Declan and Ronan; and an aunt to her best friends’ children: Ephraim, Ivy, Ella, and Henry. She spoiled these children for every little occasion, or “just because”.
In addition to her husband, David and her parents, Bruce and Kim, Victoria is survived by her sister, Kate Lavhey (Matt); her niece and nephews listed above; her parents-in-law, Reed and Linda; sister-in-law, Judith Gilbert (Mike); Godparents, Patti Morris and Deno Kotsabasakis (Brenda); her aunt, Kim Ferguson (David); many aunts, uncles, and cousins in Ontario and in the Maritimes; best friends, Trisha Maloney (Patrick), Laura Biggs (Chris), Danielle McKenney (Devan), Josh Clayton, and Melanie Dupuis, and many other friends.
Vicki was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Phyllis and Russell Trecartin; her paternal grandparents, Charlene and Lloyd Thorne; and aunts, Judy Smith and Lynda Romijn.
The family would like to take this opportunity to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Willis, Dr. Desmond, Dr. Bewick, Dr. Smith, Dr. Grant, Dr. Alugo, Dr. Hines, Dr. Chambers, Dr. Husain, Dr. George, Dr. Tutschka, Dr. Ahmad, Dr. Middleton; Extra-Mural Nurse, Carol; RT Vanessa; and all of the other members of their teams who helped Victoria’s life be a more comfortable one. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from 2 to 8 pm. A Celebration of Victoria’s Life will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at 12 noon in Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel. For those unable to attend the service, there will be a Livestream link available on her obituary on Brenan’s Funeral Home’s website. A private family interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation or Saint John Extra Mural would be appreciated by the family.
