My sincere condolences to Angelika's family. I was a colleague of hers at Meadowvale Secondary School in MIssissauga many years ago. She was a gifted teacher, inspiring us all with her love of the French language and culture, and her keen intelligence. She was a true free spirit. I am so sorry for your loss.

To Angelika’s family and friends, we are so sorry for your loss.
We have very fond memories of Angelika from the early 1990’s, married at that time to my brother Duncan. We remember her as being very warm and engaging, witty, sensitive, and very kind to my family. After Angelika and Duncan split up, we admired the very respectful relationship they were able to maintain as they navigated years of co-parenting Juneau.
It’s really hard to believe that this vivacious soul has gone so soon.
Sincerely, Sean and Wayne Nakatani

My condolences to Angelika's family during this difficult time. I met Angelika at Meadowvale back in 1990. She was an amazing teacher who could connect with any student. After she left, we lost touch. As the current Principal at BCSS we re-connected a few years ago as she did a few LTO's for us. She continued to put students first always. We will miss her dearly.

Angelika was a passionate teacher, with an unflinching work ethic. She inspired colleagues and students alike with a stunning knowledge of language, culture, art, history, and literature. Her presence in any room, big or small, was captivating. She lured you with her sense of humour and held your attention with her creative mind, sharp intellect, and deep sensitivity. She was a rich gift to teaching. I am grateful to have known her, and I will miss her.

I was a student of Ms. Kater's and later, her colleague. I credit her for lighting my passion for the French Language and for all things France and Paris and Europe. Her hilarious stories - told completely in French - often left her students (my peers) laughing an unable to speak. She once mused (in the dramatic, laughing-while-she-acted style that was all hers) that the developers around Meadowvale Secondary School must have looked at the beer in their hand when they planned "Millers" Grove": "Comment ont-ils nommé cet endroit? Ont-ils regardé la bière dans leurs mains et ont dit « Ah! Millers» (insert Ms. Kater's flare and her own laugh).
She one of the few teachers who left a huge positive impact on me.
My condolences to her family

Angelika was both a wonderful educator and person. When she spoke to you it was like you were the only person in the universe. Her thoughtful, considerate and nuanced ways as well as her wit will be deeply missed. She was an excellent listener and had a very sharp mind. She was the consummate learner. She made the universe a better place for hundreds if not thousands of students and really engaged them in deep and meaningful intellectual discussions. She is gone too soon and I'm in shock. Her legacy of all the people she touched lives on and please extend my heartfelt condolences to friends and family. She was a true treasure. -Michael Bowman

My deepest condolences to the family. Angelika was my grade 10-12 French teacher, 20 yrs ago. She changed my life. She was passionate and creative and fun and always wore dark lipstick and had a fabulous sense of style. She pushed me to embrace my love of French, and I am grateful to have experienced the richness of her teaching and her mentorship. She had a remarkable spirit that touched the lives of many students.
