Obituary of Mary Helena Fitzpatrick

Mary Helena Fitzpatrick (Donnelly), wife of the late John Brian Fitzpatrick, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on November 26, 2022, at Rocmaura Nursing Home at the age of 89.

Born July 26, 1933, in Saint John NB, Mary was the eldest daughter of the late William and Helena (Bastarache) Donnelly.

Mary is survived by daughters Patti Allison (Dean) of Sunny Corner NB, and Theresa Gatien (Joseph) of Rothesay NB, and sons John Fitzpatrick (Sheila) of Rothesay NB, Colin Fitzpatrick (Christine) of Toronto ON, Brian Fitzpatrick (Alison) of Saint John NB, and Jamie Fitzpatrick (Muriel) of Saint John NB, as well as 16 grandchildren: Amanda, Tara, and Jamie; John and Julie; Megan, Shannen, and Conor; Brianne, Colin, Kieran, and Liam; Philip and Andrew; Jack and Caroline, and 15 great-grandchildren: Lyla, Quin, Ava, Karsyn, Cohen, Hayden, Kameron, Brynn, Reagan, James, Henry, Hank, Loretta, Carter, Kendal. Mary is also survived by her sister, Darlene Hayward, in-laws Frank Fitzpatrick (Mary), Rudi Seeberger (Frances), Louis Cuppens (Pat), Helen Fitzpatrick, Ann Marie Fitzpatrick, and many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her sister Patsy Poulos (Sonny), brothers Billy Donnelly (Barb), and Jimmy Donnelly, brother-in-law Ronald Hayward, and nephew Ian Hayward, as well as in-laws Anne Marie O’Brien (Fred), Patrick Fitzpatrick, Donald Fitzpatrick, Aileen Markeson (Donald), Kathleen Seeberger, Christine (Deenie) Cuppens, and nephews Terry O’Brien, Michael Fitzpatrick, and Jeff Markeson.

Mary took great pride in raising her children and celebrating every milestone along the way. Mom and Dad always welcomed friends and family into their home on Earle Avenue and at their camp in Washademoak. Once her children were in school, Mary worked outside the home at the Bank of Montreal, Loch Lomond Mall, where she thoroughly enjoyed talking to all her customers and socializing with her co-workers. Mary and Brian had many close lifelong friends that shared life’s adventures and memorable moments. Favourite pastimes of Mary were bingo, cards, knitting dishcloths, watching hockey (both her boys and Sidney), cooking, and pickling vegetables from her garden.

Mary’s family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Chateau Champlain and the girls at Joan’s Home Care for the exceptional care and friendship given to Mary. A very special thank you is extended to Jocelyn Hennessy for her extra love and attention.

Mary has called Rocmaura home for the past few months, and the staff welcomed and treated her with love and respect. Mary’s family is forever grateful!

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 29th, 2022, from 3 pm – 8 pm.
