Obituary of Dennis Wayne Grant

It is with great sadness that the family of Dennis Wayne Grant announce his sudden passing on December 9, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a long illness. Born on July 25, 1946 in Saint John, NB, he was a son of the late Nina Belle (Graves) and James Gordon Grant.

Dennis was extremely appreciated and deeply loved by his family. Likewise, Dennis was a very patient, caring, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Ann Marie; sons, James Daniel and Adam Wayne; daughter, Lori Marie; granddaughter, Jaimi Nicole; sister, Nina Irene; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Dennis met the love of his life, Ann Marie (Hansen) in 1963 while they were both in high school. After graduation from Simonds High School, he worked for Ocean Steel. In 1967, Dennis started working for the Saint John Fire Department part-time (while working at other jobs). He then became a full time firefighter in 1969. Dennis loved working for the fire department, and he found this career exciting, fulfilling and he loved his coworkers. Dennis played the bagpipes with the Saint John Fire Department pipe band.  He later advanced to the position of Captain with the fire department and retired in 2009

Dennis loved to spend time with his many close friends. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, playing the bagpipes and guitar as well as winemaking. Most of all he enjoyed carpentry – he built a large hunting and fishing camp in the Miramichi (with the help of his cousin John) as well as other buildings and furniture in Saint John.  He was a very agreeable and pleasant person to be around, was generous with his time and would lend a helping hand to those in need.

At Saint James church in Saint John, Dennis served as Warden and on the Vestry of the church for many years. He did various jobs for the church including delivering donations to the Food Bank, repairs and ground maintenance, garbage removal and other odd jobs.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was also predeceased by his brother, James David Grant and his sister, Dianne Gail Keyes.

Dennis was truly a wonderful man whose impact will forever be felt by his family who will love him endlessly.
