Obituary of Velma Eileen Fraser
With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of Velma Eileen (Furrow) Fraser on Friday, December 9, 2022, at her residence in Embassy Hall, Parkland in the Valley. Born August 29, 1928, at Hartin Settlement, NB, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Wright) Furrow, and the loving and devoted wife for 65 ½ years to the late Burton Augustus Fraser.
Velma was a long-time member of Forest Hills Baptist Church, Saint John, NB, and gave much of her time to serving with the Willing Workers and Willing Hands, and was a member of the Jean Smith WMS of Forest Hills Baptist Church.
Velma enjoyed camping, traveling, bowling, knitting, reading, and baking. She enjoyed the special times visiting her son and two grandsons out west.
Velma was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, and is survived by her daughters, Linda Campbell (Gale Rutherford) of Quispamsis and Frances Johnston (Joel) of Saint John; son, Charles Fraser (Una) of Kamloops, BC; grandchildren: Jodi Campbell, Joseph Campbell, Clarence “Junior” Campbell, Stephen Fraser, Richard Fraser, and Daniel Johnston (Abby); step-grandchildren, Paul Rutherford (Beth) and Loren Rutherford (Shannon); great-grandchildren: Tori Campbell, Racheal Campbell, Jade Campbell, Jenna Arsenault, Jayla Arsenault, and Tristen Holmes; step-great-grandchildren: Brayden Rutherford, Isabel Rutherford, Bailey Rutherford, and Sam Rutherford; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Burton in 2015, Velma was predeceased by her grandson, Justin Holmes; sisters: Elva Dow, Helen McMillan, Pearl Johnson, and Phyllis Swim; brothers: Donald, Guy, Harley, Hazen, Lester, and Ronald Furrow; and special friend and sister-in-law, Ruth Furrow.
The family would like to thank the staff of Concorde and Embassy Halls for their care and compassion shown to Velma. Your kindness has been appreciated.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424), where visiting will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 1 pm from Forest Hills Baptist Church, 36 Mountain Road, Saint John. The funeral livestream will be available by visiting Forest Hills Baptist Church’s YouTube channel at https://youtube.com/@fhbchurch6024. Interment will be Friday, December 16, 2022, at 1 pm in Rockland Cemetery, McAdam, NB.
