Ian, Marlene and family.
Our deepest sympathy on Carol’s passing. One of my favourite memories with her was going down South to Matt and Laura’s wedding. The love she had for her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews was bar none. She was always there to help, and help she did. She will be missed at the next family gathering.

If you are very fortunate, at sometime in your life you’ll have a friend like Carol. Someone who is kind, has a great sense of humour and who cares deeply about her family and friends.
I met Carol when we were in high school in Montreal.
Our being inseparable teenagers was likely the result of seating charts (our last names both began with the letters Wa) and my being a new kid in school who was on crutches recovering from a fractured knee. That’s right, Carol wanted to help the new girl who was having a hard time managing crutches and carrying books in the school corridors.
Carol’s parents, Mary and Walter Wantola, were wonderful people who were always quick to ask you to stay for supper. And so I got to know them, her sister Marlene, brother Wally and her grandmother who lived upstairs. Of course, I mustn’t forget the family pet Taffy, who Carol diligently took on long walks in the neighborhood.
After high school Carol attended McGill university and graduated with a degree in commerce. Following that she worked in advertising and became an Account Executive at Vickers and Benson in Toronto. Being a direct marketing whiz led Carol to a position at ScotiaBank where she went on to being a branch manager. Believe it or not, there’s still an article posted on the Internet about one of her old campaigns.
In later years, when Carol and Ian moved to New Brunswick to be closer to her sister Marlene, she remained a devotee of all things furry and feathered. I recall her telling me about how sound travelled in the area and hearing a rooster crowing while she was sitting on her back deck.
It’s so very hard to know that I can’t pick up the phone and call you anymore, my dear friend. It’s been over fifty years, and yet it will never be enough.
My deepest condolences to Ian, Marlene, Wally and their families.

Carol and I shared a long friendship of over thirty years. We also took some great trips - to Florida, Antigua and Hawaii. She loved her "rays" (sunshine) and we had a lot of laughs over pizza and wine.
When Carol retired, we still kept in touch. She greatly loved her huskies (Kisha, Keela and Kimic) throughout the years. Then illness struck and robbed her of many of her favourite things to do.
She was a family person - very loyal and true. She loved to laugh and was smart as a whip.
I have no doubt she has moved on to a world without pain and the burden of a body that no longer works. She is free! For that, I am truly grateful.
I know we will meet again!
