Obituary of Bertha Marie Basque
It is with great sadness that the family of Bertha Marie (Pinet) Basque announces her passing, surrounded by her family, at the age of 92 on January 26, 2023. Born in Causapscal, Quebec on July 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Adelard and Marie Rose (Gaudin) Pinet.
Bertha was predeceased by her loving husband Hormisdas J Basque, her brother and sisters, and her late son-in-law Bruce Graves and grandson Matthew.
Bertha loved her work in Montreal, Bathurst, and Saint John as a nurses' assistant. Her first love was taking care of her wonderful husband and family. She was a great cook, a skill she shared with her children. Bertha loved nature, sewing, playing her harmonica and the spoons. Her sense of humour was contagious, shared with anyone who knew her. Her 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren all enjoyed being entertained and teased by Nanny. They will dearly miss this love.
Mom was a devout believer in Jesus which offers her family much comfort. She will be dearly missed by her daughters Geraldine Graves, Theresa Gilks, Odette (Tim) McGrath, Noella McPhee; her sons Donald Basque, Yvon (Cathy) Basque, Stanislas (Bette) Myles Basque, and her grandchildren Robbie, Liza, Jamie, Karen, Tammy, Sara, Michelle, Tina, Damien and Jessica. Also survived by her two sisters Theresa and Cecile and sister-in-law Geraldine Hill (Tante Mimi).
The family wishes to thank the loving ladies from Integrity as well as the amazing care shown to them and Mom by the staff of the SJRH.
