Greg Mackin

Obituary of Greg Mackin

It is with great sadness that the family of Gregory William Mackin announces his peaceful passing which occurred on February 2, 2023, at his residence. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick on April 5, 1960, he was the son to the late Loyall and Doreen (Payne) Mackin.

Greg had a very intense and competitive passion for Curling. In 1978 Greg won the provincial junior title. He also went on to play in many provincial championships in the years to follow. One thing Greg loved more than Curling was his family. His favorite pass time was spending time at home, on the beach with his family. Loved to sit back and watching his family, frequently remarking “what a lucky guy I am”.

While he was a quiet man, he was well loved and well known for his sharp sense of humor and kind heart. He will be missed dearly by everyone who had the privilege to know him.

Greg is survived by his loving wife Genessca Mackin; daughters, Amanda Mackin (Simeon), Skylar Mackin (Alex), and Oliva Mackin; son Gregory Mackin; Sisters, Brenda McGraw (Paul) and Sharon Byrne; grandchildren, Amya, Aria, Loyal, and Damon; sister-in-laws Jane Mackin, and Yvette Beals of Dartmouth; brother-in-law Christopher Anstey (Tannis) of Calgary; mother-in-law Nora Anstey of Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Brian Mackin, Pat Mackin, and Paul Mackin; brother-in-law Gerard Byrne; and sister-in-law Lynn Mackin.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). In keeping with Greg’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gregory’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. For those who wish, condolences may be made by visiting www.BrenansFH.com.
