Obituary of Frances Jane Costello
The family of Frances Jane Costello mourn her passing which occurred on Monday, March 13, 2023. Born in Aroostook Junction, New Brunswick on September 3, 1927; she was the daughter of the late Edward and Phebe (Wright) Sloat. Frances was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by her brother, Clayton Sloat (Margaret) and her sister, Dorothy Dixon (Truman). Frances was also predeceased by her husband, Ralph and her son, Richard.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda; son, Randall (Christine); six grandchildren, Kate (John Jarvis), Colin, Laura (Chris Bell), Michael, Nicholas and David; six great-grandchildren, Ava, Lucy, Bennett, Henry, Wyatt and Emma; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Frances was blessed with many close and supportive friendships arising from her training at the Saint John School of Nursing and practicing as an RN thereafter; from her time in Kennebecasis Park (and the fifty year Bridge Club of which she was a founding member); from her active membership at the Riverside Golf and Country Club; from supporting her husband’s career in the newspaper business and his involvement in the golfing community; and, in later years, from her home at Mascot Court.
Frances had a long and interactive life and was grateful that she had the opportunity to watch her grandchildren grow up and become established, and her great-grandchildren begin their lives in a healthy and happy way. She was so proud of them all.
The family thanks Dr. Laura McMackin and the MDs and nursing staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital for the care provided to Frances in the last several months of her life. They also thank all the staff of Howe Hall and Carleton Hall at the Shannex in Milledgeville for their kindness and attentiveness to Frances over the last few years.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online remembrances and condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
A private graveside service will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. A reception will be held for relatives and friends at Riverside Country Club, Rothesay on Saturday, March 18, 2023 between 2:00 - 4:00 PM.
