Obituary of Lillian Mildred Pugsley
Lillian Mildred (Chapman) Pugsley, of Lower Cambridge, Queens Co., NB, passed away with family at her side, at the Turnbull Nursing home in Saint John on March 23, 2023. Born in Lower Cambridge August 1, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Florence (Holder) Chapman.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Hazen, in 2009, and by four of her siblings, Ernest, Laurence, Allan and Isabel Chapman.
She is survived by her only child, Philip (Fran) of Quispamsis; four grandchildren: Matthew (Julie), Devin (Meaghan) of Quispamsis, Laura (Justin Cullinan) of Cow Bay, NS and Brent of Quispamsis; six great-grandchildren: Kai, Brynn, Addisen, Norah, Oliver and Hazel Pugsley; two sisters: Joyce Thorne and Lucile Gunter; her sister-in-law, Grace Chapman, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Following graduation from Gagetown Grammar School, Lillian first taught school, and then farmed with her husband Hazen. She later attended and graduated from NBCC in Saint John, returning to Cambridge where she was employed as school secretary, a role she very much enjoyed, until her retirement.
Her most cherished times included dancing with Hazen at the Jemseg “Jam Sessions” and other dance venues. She also enjoyed knitting, gardening with her family and even mowing her own lawn into her 90's. She was proud to prepare and serve scrumptious meals and treats for family and friends, including early morning hunters’ breakfasts.
Lillian’s family wishes to express sincere thanks to Turnbull Nursing Home and its staff for the compassionate care provided during her recent stay with them.
There will be no formal visitation or funeral service at this time.
In memory of Lillian, remembrances may be made to First Cambridge Baptist Cemetery or to a charity of one’s choice.
