It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ronald “Ron” Joseph Spragg announces his passing at Bobby’s Hospice on March 26th, 2023.

Ron was born on February 16th, 1940, in Saint John, the son of the late Joseph and Emma Spragg. He is survived by his wife Donna (nee Ough) Spragg, married 59 years; sons Richard (Sue), Peter (Heather), and daughter Susan (Kevin) McNutt. He was a dearly loved grandfather to Sarah and Emily McNutt and Noah Spragg. Also mourning his passing are his in-laws, Wayne (Jane) Ough, Bernie (Linda) Ough, Dwight (Leona) Ough, Stephen (Brenda) Ough, John (Heather) Hilburn, and Meredith Henderson. He will also be sadly missed by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Betty Forrest.

Ron graduated from the Saint John Vocational School in 1959. He worked at the Saint John Dry Dock for 37 years and was very involved in Local 3 Marine Workers Union, where he served for several years as Secretary-Treasurer.

Ron played basketball with the New Brunswick “Senior C” and Saint John “A’s” basketball teams. He also enjoyed coaching hockey with the Saint John Atoms, KV Minor Peewees, and Lancaster Thunder Atoms. He was an avid Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Ron was a volunteer with the Ford World Curling Championship in Saint John.

Ron loved travelling and camping. He also volunteered as a support worker for Horizon Health. He attended Lakewood and Trinity churches where he sang with the choir.

A special thanks goes out to Extra-Mural nurse Liana, Home Care (Monica and Carrie), and the staff at Bobby’s Hospice.

Visitation will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, 115 Charlotte Street, Saint John, on Saturday, April 1st, 2023, beginning at 11am.
