Obituary of Margaret Louise Salter
Margaret passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 26, 2023 at Shannex, Parkland in the Valley, Quispamsis, NB.
Born September 9, 1924 in Doaktown, NB, she was the daughter of the late William Robert MacKinnon and Vye E. (Russell) MacKinnon. She went to Doaktown Superior School, Mount Allison Academy, Mount Alison University and the Royal Victoria School of Nursing in Montreal.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she was a nurse and business woman. Together with late husband Allister, built and ran the Skye Motel in Port Hastings, NS, from 1960 – 1968.
She is survived by her son David (Sandra) of Rothesay, N.B. and daughter Janet (Andy) Tatarsky of Toronto, ON; grandsons Michael (Michelle Mitterhuber) Tatarsky, Matthew Tatarsky and Nicholas Tatarsky, all of Toronto. She is also survived by her sister Moyra Morrison, brother-in-law D.R. Morrison of Summerside, PEI, as well as her niece Cathy Knustgraichen and nephew Robert (Marg) Morrison all of PEI; Nephews William Mackinnon of Hamilton, ON and Graeme (Gail) Mackinnon of Hampton, NB. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Allister (1970), brother Bill MacKinnon and sister-in-law Audrey MacKinnon and infant niece Melanie Beth MacKinnon.
Margaret’s family is beyond appreciative to Paul Harrigan and all the great staff at Shannex Parkland in the Valley, especially Holly and Pauline and her special Parkland in the Valley Friends. Special thanks to Huguette Rector of Home Care by Design, for the loving care she provided over the past couple of years.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East, N.S., at a later date. Donations in memory of Margaret may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
