As a 9 year old piper who's performance at his sister's junior high school concert didn't go very well, I was comforted afterward with words of encouragement by Mr. McKinney. I'd never met him before and our paths never crossed again, but I never forgot his simple act of compassion that day when I really needed it.
Rest in peace Mr. McKinney.

Sorry to hear about Mr. McKinney, I attended Loch Lomond Elementary School as a child, Mr. McKinney was our music teacher and traveled around district 20, he gave me the confidence to sing and compete in festivals as a young child, I never forgot him and the excitement to get my sheet music and have him on piano was a joy, this was in the late 60s, sometimes people bring things to others unspoken, he had an everlasting effect on me!

I’m so sorry for your loss. A gift to so many students . So many of my fondest memories take place in the music room with Mr.McKinney . I remember how much he made us all love music and the effort he put into choir and plays ! We all loved to be in that room and to make him proud. He even helped us cut a record ‘NEW YORK NEW YORK AND GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN’. The experiences he provided were epic at the time and I feel blessed to have been part of it. He had a way of making everyone feel like a star. Rest in peace and know your legacy lives on in many different ways with the students whose lives you touched. Julia (Thorn) Steeves

Imogene and Bob’s Family. We were saddened to learn of Bob’s passing while away the past week. We would certainly have attended the service had we been here.
Our Families were close when we were children and though we lost touch some years ago, except for the occasional visit,
I have many memories of times together. Bob and Imogene. As second cousins they we’re stuck with my sister and I while our parents talked for ages.
Bob introduced me to basketball at Victoria St Baptist Church while still in elementary school and I was able to get the bus from the South End, by myself, to get to practices and games.
He always made sure I was OK and I really looked up to him.
So, while his music was his “work”, we had many good times boating at Ragged Point, hanging out with friends, and playing practical jokes on unsuspecting neighbors.
Please accept our condolences at this time.

To the McKinney family
My heartfelt condolences to you all. Mr McKinney was my music teacher at Forest Hills School 37 years ago and he left a huge impact on all of us who had him as a teacher.
I loved being a part of his famous musicals rehearsal time was always a lot of fun and opening night was so exciting. He always told me that I had a beautiful voice and that when I got to high school to make sure that I continued to sing. He made music class so fun and we practiced for months for our Christmas concerts at the Empty Stocking fund. He was so good to all of his students and such a positive role model for us all.
Now all these years later I am teaching at Forest Hills and think of him with only the fondest memories whenever I am in what forever will be Mr McKinneys music room and auditorium.
Rest peacefully Mr McKinney

Dear Janet, Mark and Ellen,
Please accept our deepest sympathy of the death of dear Bob. Our family has fond memories of his kind and caring way with his students, especially during the musicals he did with them. Two of our children were blessed to have had him as music teacher at Forest Hills Elementary. His musical talent had seemingly no bounds. We would love to watch him play both the piano and keyboard at the same time, one with his right hand and the other with his left. It was flawless. Music has a way of touching people's hearts especially if they are young. Many children were blessed to have had Bob in their lives. Our family will continue to pray for yours during this difficult time of bereavement. With our love, Mark and Sheila Dail and family.

Mrs. McKinney, Mark, Ellen and Family,
Very saddened to read of the passing of your wonderful husband and father, Bob (he insisted I call him "Bob"). Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Bob was an all-round amazing man. Be it musician, teacher or basketball coach; but, most of all he was a great friend to the Correia family. He and my father, Gilbert, were great buddies and especially enjoyed taking the tent trailer and going off fishing. I particularly remember when I was around twelve years old and Dad had to travel to Bermuda for his father's funeral. It was winter and Bob would come and pick me up and take me to my hockey practices and games in Dad's absence. His kindness then, and still to this day, was very much appreciated. After Dad's passing he would stop in, when available, to see how Mother was doing - as stated earlier a great family friend and a man we will hold dear in our hearts forever.
Please take care of each other and keep the Faith.
If I can ever be of any assistance, in any regard, please don't hesitate to make contact.
Most Sincerely,
-Tony Correia

To Mrs. McKinney and family;
I remember Mr. McKinney very well from Hillcrest School where he taught music, and then from Forest Hills School, where I was a student in Miss Peacock’s grade six class.
A little story:
They had purchased a house in Upper Golden Grove, and one evening, picked my cousin and I up on Golden Grove and took us up to see their new home. Mr. McKinney had decided to get a small garden area in the front of the house ready for planting. My cousin and I helped turn over the soil, as Mr McKinney put a bag of fertilizer into the garden. Then he watered it and we all felt we had done a great job.
The next day at school, we found out that that big bag of fertilizer was actually a big bag of cement!
I hope you and your family take solace in knowing that many people have little memories just like that of Mr. McKinney.
Sending you my thoughts and prayers;
Joan (Woodruff) Lowney

Janet, Mark and Ellen, I am very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Bob taught me music when I was in grade 6 at Woodlawn. In 1975, I met up with him again when I joined the staff at Forest Hills Elem. There aren't enough words to describe Bob. He was one of a kind. Such a kind, talented, dedicated and caring teacher who brought the best out of his students. Besides being an outstanding music teacher, Bob was a wonderful producer and director of many Operettas. My daughters, Deeann and Denise Arnold were so fortunate to have had him for music. I am extremely grateful for the wonderful start Bob gave both of my children as he encouraged them in recorder, violin, piano and their participation in choir, recorder band.
My family benefited from their participation in Empty Stocking Fund and his Annual Production of Operettas as a fund raiser at the school.
He was very friendly, with a good sense of humour, and supportive of me during my teaching years.

To the McKinley family,
I remember Mr. McKinney from music classes at Forest Hills School. I’ve talked about him and others have as well, when reminiscing about our elementary days. I was felt so talented when I could play Hot Crossed Buns on my recorder and his name always comes up when one of the kids break out and start whaling on the recorder. It’s pretty amazing how music makes such an impact on our lives and Mr. McKinney certainly make a big impact of MANY with his love of music and his humour in class. To Janet, Mark, Ellen and Imogene - my condolance to each of you at a time that was perhaps not unexpected, but which still brings a time of grief. It is wonderful that in the midst of sorrow there is everlasting joy now for Bob in heaven.
It has been my privilege to visit with Bob and Janet many times over the recent past. Bob was totally dedicated to providing the care that Janet needed, with the help of various folks who could share some of that burden. Bob wondered often if God heard his and others' prayers, and it was a joy to remind him that God most certainly cared and was present.
Now that the limit of Bob's strength has been reached, it is my prayer that God will continue to support Janet at this time in her journey, and meet the needs of each of you - Mark, Ellen and Imogene - in the days ahead. God bless each of you with His love.

Janet, Mark and Ellen I'm sadden to read this today shared by my friend Donna Moore. A wonderful caring man with so much talent he shared with everyone. I recall, growing up at Main Street his playing for his daughter Ellen when she sang. I was so proud to be considered a friend and proud when he played on many occasions at the trade center functions that I was working. But my best memory was his playing for my Janet Hazelton, now when she sang on the TV Telethon Empty Stocking Fund in the early 90s. I'm honored to even own his cassette tape of The Most Wonderful Time of the year. He'll be forever remembered.

Janet, Mark, Ellen and families: I am so sorry to hear that you have lost Bob. What a wonderful man, with a talent that was simply amazing. The McKinneys were great family friends for many years. I remember long drives to the country when we would take Bob's grandmother Louise up to the Washademoak to visit friends from years past. My parents loved to hear Bob at the keyboard, and enjoyed listening to Ellen as she developed her amazing voice. Bob would visit my parents, Murray and Helen King, and bring along CD's of music he had recorded for their enjoyment. In later years he was so patient with my mother, as Alzheimer's was claiming her mind, but she so enjoyed Gog's music. Bob has moved on to his heavenly home, where he will be making music with the heavenly choirs, but has left so many wonderful memories to comfort his family and friends.
