Obituary of Poul Ernst Falkjar
Poul Ernst Falkjar, a lifelong resident of Saint John, New Brunswick, was born on November 19, 1930, and peacefully passed away on October 5, 2023, at the age of 92. He was the beloved son of the late Niels Valdemar Ernst Falkjar and Ragnhild Louise Christiansen.
Poul is survived by his three loving sons, Karl (Madonna), David (Valerie), and Eric (Michelle). He was a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren: Neils, Karyn, Danica, Paul, Max, Kristian, and a great-grandfather to Wyatt and Thomas. Poul's family was at the center of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Poul's professional journey was deeply rooted in his family's legacy. In 1960, he took over the family upholstery business, VE Falkjar & Son, from his father. Over the years, he worked diligently to expand the business, moving it to various locations within Saint John. His dedication and craftsmanship were admired by all who knew him.
Poul's adventurous spirit led him to various pursuits in life. In the 1960s, he was an active member of the RCMP auxiliary, contributing to the well-being of his community. In the 1970s through the 1990s, he occasionally worked as a commercial diver, working for KD Marine Ltd. He plied his trade in locations such as Canaport and Churchill Falls, Labrador. His experiences as a diver were a testament to his courage and sense of exploration.
In his later years, Poul formed a meaningful companionship with Vivienne Parry of Saint John, with whom he spent a number of cherished years. Their time together brought love and comfort to both their lives, and they supported each other through life's ups and downs.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 10, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service to honor his life will take place on Wednesday, October 11, at 10:00 AM at Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel, followed by interment at Fernhill Cemetery.
Poul will be remembered not only for his dedication to his family and business but also for his adventurous spirit, unwavering commitment, and the warmth of his companionship. He leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him in his beloved hometown of Saint John, New Brunswick.
