Obituary of Lauchlan Fraser Fulton

It is with sadness, and gratitude for his long and accomplished life, that the family of Lauchlan (Lauchie) Fraser Fulton of Saint John announces his passing November 4, 2023 at home.

Born December 11, 1930, in Chipman, NB, Lauchie was the son of the late Wallace and Tilly (Fraser) Fulton. He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry (Lusby) Fulton, his daughter Karen Fulton (Greg Wilson) of Birdton, NB, several nieces, nephews, cousins and members of Sherry’s family.

An educator for more than 35 years, Lauchie was a graduate of New Brunswick Teachers’ College and the University of New Brunswick, from where he earned degrees in both Arts and Education. He was vice-principal of Prince Charles School in Saint John for 27 years, retiring in 1984.

Lauchie was a life member of the Adanac Association Inc. and “Thee” Sick Committee for 44 years. Also active in sports for many years, Lauchie was a member of the Minto Sports Wall of Fame, recognized both as a team member and as a softball pitcher. He was a member of New Brunswick Softball Hall of Fame, a life member of the Windsor, NS Sports Heritage Society and a member of the Society of International Hockey Research.

Lauchie was a devoted fan of the former Brooklyn Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto Maple Leafs and Saint John Sea Dogs. He was an avid reader of newspapers and a collector of many kinds of memorabilia, some of which is now in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

Lauchie was a member of Harmony United Church in Saint John.

The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to New Brunswick Extra-Mural Program (Saint John) and to Jason Willis, Lauchie’s devoted companion, who was like a grandson to him.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, New Brunswick, E2K-3H6, (506-634-7424). Visitation will be Thursday, November 9, from 2PM to 5PM at Brenan’s Funeral Home in Saint John. A memorial service will be held at Chipman United Church Friday, November 10, at 11AM with Rev. Jim Postlethwaite officiating. A private family interment will take place at Red Bank Cemetery in Chipman at a later date.
